Areas of Practice

Probate.  In the probate process I assist the personal representative with the administration of the estate.  This includes the appointment of the representative, preparation of the inventory of the estate, payment of claims, preparation of the final account, and distribution of the estate.

Estate Planning.  After reviewing financial information and discussing your estate planning objectives, I draft the appropriate documents, including Wills, trusts, health care directives, and financial powers of attorney.

Business Law.  I assist clients in establishing corporations, limited liability companies, non-profit organizations, and partnerships.  I review with clients the relevant factors in selecting the business organization and draft the necessary documents, such as articles, resolutions, bylaws, and shareholder agreements.

Family Law.  In this area one of my primary functions is to enable couples to dissolve their marriages with dignity.  I worked on the parenting plan legislation that is designed to reduce litigation over child custody.  Prenuptial (antenuptial) agreements have become more common with the increasing number of second marriages in which each spouse enters the marriage with significant assets and a sesire to provide for the security of children from a previous marriage.

Firm Profile

After graduating from the law school at the University of Minnesota, I served as a state prosecutor for felony trials for five years.  In 1980 I opened my own law office in Burnsville.  My practice includes several areas of law that affect people in their every day lives.

It is important for you to feel comfortable whenever you are selecting someone to perform professional services.  In our initial meeting you will have the opportunity to meet me without having any pressure to make an immediate decision about retaining me to represent you.  You will also have the opportunity to obtain basic information about the nature of the legal process, what you should expect an attorney to do, how attorney's fees are determined, and other general information.

During my years in the practice of law I have served as the attorney for non-profit organizations, as a speaker at continuing legal education seminars, as a member of the board of directors of our local parish, as a member of the board of directors of our local chamber of commerce, and as a coach for all of our daughters' softball teams.

All of these experiences have been valuable for their own sake as well as for providing perspective on effective methods of working with people to resolve issues.  I use this experience and knowledge whenever I undertake to represent a client.

I am a member of the bar of the Minnesota Supreme Court, the United States Supreme Court, the United States Court of Appeals, and the United States District Court.  I am also a member of the Minnesota State Bar Association.
